I stumbled across this gorgeous, vintage-looking room while looking at one of my favorite design blogs, Plush Palate. I was immediately drawn to this room because I have similar style and taste. A vintage-modern look is an elegant addition to any home, regardless of the style of the rest of the home. It was initially designed for Canadian House & Home magazine by interior designer, Mary McDonald.
I initially looked at the picture frames when I came across this photo; I felt the black and white photos in black frames against a blue background were uncomplicated and timeless. Next, the lamps were something gorgeous and easy to replicate. The floral accents and white furniture placed a serene and comforting touch to the room. I thought this would make a great office at home and perhaps a simpler recreation could be made for the office at work.
Although this exact look would be different in every setting, a small, personal difference can make the room individualized and unique. A budget-friendly room could incorporate second-hand pieces which are repainted in white. The lamps could be easily created simply by the square-shaped shade.
The blue rug wouldn't necessarily have to match the blue wall color, but would have to be in the same palette since it could start to look “off” if the colors were too varied. I also enjoyed the tree decal on the back wall which could become your "family tree" with photos of family members, or simply a decorative piece to the room. To keep with the Breakfast at Tiffany's theme, the black and white photo of Audrey Hepburn from the classically iconic movie is a must.
This look is timeless and would keep up with the changing styles throughout the years. It would also be easily duplicated by someone with a tight budget. I love the colors that are showcased in this room as well as the furniture; and the photographs add an element of creativity that are absolutely inspiring.
