I’ve heard about blue lip glosses on numerous occasions, but never thought to try it out. Honestly, it did not sound like the most appealing of looks to me. Blue lips bring to mind frostbite – not exactly the type of appearance I or anyone else I know of tends to go for. Eventually, curiosity got the best of me. Claims that blue lip shades will provide the look of a brighter, white smile were tough for me to ignore, but I still had my doubts. Coincidentally, I found an untouched blue lip gloss in one of my makeup palettes. I applied it, and quickly flashed a big grin to my mirror to check out the outcome. To my surprise, my teeth did look a little whiter without looking like I spent too much time in the Arctic Circle.
Smile-brightening blue lip products are very sheer. Once applied, it looks just like a clear gloss. They can be used on their own or over lipstick. The blue tint subtly neutralizes the yellow tones in your teeth. It’s definitely not enough to transform extremely stained teeth into a bright white though. While it isn’t a miracle worker, it still gives your smile a little bit of a brightening boost. Benefit’s California Kissin’ Lip Shine is a minty aqua tinted gloss, so you can have minty fresh breath to accompany your pearly whites. Kevyn Aucoin’s The Liquid Cyber Lip in Alurabliss is another blue-tinged gloss that appears clear once it is applied to the lips.
Apply these glosses with a light hand so the blue does not end up showing. Your actual lip color shouldn’t look much different; it should be just enough to add a little boost to you smile.
As strange as blue lip gloss may sound, it’s actually pretty tame due to its sheerness. Since it looks practically clear once it’s applied, you can wear it with any type of makeup look. Try it out the next time you feel like your smile needs a little boost!
