After a Fashion

Gather your most stylish gal pals and take in the best fashion films of all time

There are few things in life more refreshing to us busy women than a well-deserved and often long overdue girls’ night. After a grueling week at work, taking care of the house, and our families, an evening out or in with our best friends doing “girl stuff” is just the thing to take the edge off, refresh us, and get us ready to be sent back out into the craziness of the world again. It gives us a chance to dress to the nines and unleash our glamorous selves. A night out on the town is always incredibly fun, but don’t overlook a girls’ night in, either – especially when it’s centered on the glorious world of fashion.

For your next “ladies only” soiree, invite your fashionista friends over for a fashion film night. Get a variety of movies, like the classic Breakfast At Tiffany’s, the tragic drama Gia, the comedy Zoolander, the modern must-see The Devil Wears Prada, and the coming-of-age teen flick, Clueless. All of these films have deep ties to fashion, whether they are classics, comedies, tragedies, or just plain old good fun. Not too crazy about these movie picks? Hop onto your nearest internet browser and simply enter a search for “best fashion films” and you will have a plethora of different opinions and many different options for films. Just be sure you block off plenty of time – with so many fabulous choices, you’ll want to watch them all!

Send out some adorable invites to all your most fashion-forward girlfriends, and instruct them to come over decked out in their favorite, most stylish outfits (you may also want to tell them to bring a change of sweats, since girls’ night in almost always equals comfort). Grab a selection of top fashion magazines and arrange them on your coffee and end tables for your guests’ perusal.

Arguably the most important part of any gathering are the refreshments! Since your guests will more than likely be gathered on comfortable seats in front of the TV, offer foods that don’t require any real utensils beyond, perhaps, a fork. Pick up or, if you’re feeling ambitious, try making some delicious gourmet pizzas. Slice up and toast some pita bread and serve it with a variety of dips, like hummus, guacamole, and spinach-artichoke dip. Offer a variety of fresh, raw veggies with some low-fat dressing. For sweeter treats, slice up different fruits like strawberries, pineapples, apples, grapes, and kiwi and serve it with some cream cheese or yogurt dressing. To top off the delicious refreshments, head to your local bakery and order oversized gourmet cupcakes, one for each guest.

Finally, create a signature drink for the evening. This can be done very simply by concocting any fruit punch recipe in a cookbook you have on hand, and then adding a splash of liquor, like rum or vodka. Serve it in champagne flutes with ribbons tied around the stems for a truly sophisticated finish!

Make it a night that you and your guests will be sure to remember. After all, the quintessential movie night (with a fashionable twist) paired with the best munchies (with a gourmet twist) can’t be beat!
